Most Favoured Nation is a publication accompanying Jasmina Cibic’s exhibition at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.

Bringing together texts by Marijana Schneider, Maja and Reuben Fowkes, and a conversation between Tevž Logar and Jasmina Cibic, the publication situates Cibic’s work within broader geopolitical and historical frameworks.

Through installations, films, and archival research, the project traces how nations construct identity through culture—from world expositions and modernist architecture to political speeches, gift economies, and institutional display. It reveals how artistic production is repeatedly mobilised to stage ideological narratives, while also exposing the fractures, failures, and contradictions embedded within them.

Central to the publication is an analysis of Europe’s contemporary condition: the erosion of transnational solidarity, the resurgence of nationalism, and the increasing instrumentalisation of culture within political agendas. Against this backdrop, Cibic positions art as both a participant in and a critical mirror of these systems—capable of revealing the mechanisms of power while proposing alternative, collective futures grounded in feminist and transnational perspectives.
