Land(e)scape, exhibition catalogue, Kunstlerhaus Graz, 2007

This exhibition catalogue accompanied a 2007 presentation at Künstlerhaus Graz bringing together seven internationally established Slovenian artists: Jasmina Cibic, Davide Grassi/Janez Janša, Žiga Kariž, Kracina & Leben, Sašo Sedlaček, son:DA, and Polona Tratnik. Conceived as a platform for dialogue between divergent artistic methodologies and conceptual worlds, the publication maps a generation of practices emerging from the shifting social, political, and technological realities of the early twenty-first century.

Rather than proposing a unified narrative, the catalogue foregrounds a constellation of speculative environments and hybrid realities constructed across the participating works. Melancholic digital interiors, fetishised waiting rooms for global tourism, itineraries for orbital waste, deformed evolutionary landscapes, biopolitical agoras, and microbiological transformations of intimate objects unfold throughout the publication as interconnected yet unstable spaces of projection and critique.

The artists’ practices engage with questions of identity, virtuality, technological mediation, ecology, surveillance, and global mobility, revealing how contemporary subjectivities are increasingly shaped through overlapping political, scientific, and media infrastructures. Across the publication, reality appears fragmented and continuously reconfigured: a mutable territory negotiated between physical and virtual systems, private and collective imaginaries, and local histories positioned within broader transnational conditions.

Through essays, visual documentation, and project texts, the catalogue situates the exhibition as an exploration of “finding a personal reality” amid rapidly shifting ideological and technological landscapes, tracing how contemporary artistic practices construct alternative spaces through processes of distortion, mutation, simulation, and critical displacement.
